Job Title Summary Adjunct Instructor – Fashion Business and Design. Evaluation group: Adjunct Instructor. FLSA status: Exempt. Positions supervised: N/A. Essential Job Functions and Performance Indicators An adjunct instructor is responsible for teaching (subject areas: introductory to advanced Fashion Business and Entrepreneurship coursework, Fashion Design and Technology coursework and practice), service, and related administrative activities. Teach course sessions in an organized way, providing time for reflection, discussion, and application of ideas and information. Develop adaptive thinking and problem‑solving skills by explaining difficult points, encouraging questions, adjusting instruction, and helping students understand the language and processes of the subject. Provide useful feedback on tests and completed assignments, using assessment results to give extra help or extended learning opportunities. Establish a positive, productive, and respectful classroom environment that is conducive to learning. Hold all classes as scheduled and be punctual in starting and ending classes. Enforce and respect university policies, procedures, and rules, reporting violations that cannot be redressed through normal faculty intervention. Distribute the syllabus to each student at the first class meeting and provide written notice of any substantial changes. Require students to use the course text(s) to an extent that warrants purchase. Ensure students receive timely assistance with assignments and assessments. Administer exams or other evaluative activities during the scheduled final exam time for every course. Determine final grades as prescribed in the syllabus. Mentoring Promote volunteer opportunities, conduct research with students, provide curricular enhancements or extensions, tutor, develop resume‑building initiatives, encourage responsible citizenship and leadership opportunities, connect students with university resources, and model healthy, ethical lifestyles. Shared Responsibility Engage in scholarly activities and creative endeavors contributing to the academic mission, supervise laboratories, independent study activities, and off‑campus learning such as practicums and internships, participate in shared governance and university events, and demonstrate interpersonal effectiveness with students, colleagues, and administrators. Subject Matter Expertise Design, develop, and teach assigned undergraduate and graduate courses and seminars. The position may require other duties as assigned. Required Qualifications Master’s degree required. Equivalent combination of education, training, and experience considered. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Critical thinking and independent problem‑solving ability. Organizational skills and ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously. Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Canvas. Work Environment General office and/or classroom conditions. Physical Abilities Stamina to teach classes as required. Ability to stand or sit for extended periods. Regular attendance is a necessary and essential function.
